Jiyu Hwang
Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea in 1989, I moved to Melbourne, Australia in 2010 during my Bachelor of Fine Arts studies. In Melbourne, I was introduced to the world of tattooing and had the opportunity to learn the craft within its dynamic tattoo scene. This experience sparked a deep passion for tattooing, and in 2014, I officially began my career as a professional tattoo artist in Melbourne.
Since then, I’ve expanded my artistic perspective by working as a guest artist in various cities, including Sydney, Toronto, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Seoul, and Singapore. These experiences have greatly enriched both my craft and creative vision.
I specialise in black and grey botanical tattoos that blend natural and floral elements, drawing inspiration from Eastern art traditions such as Korean Minhwa, Japanese Ukiyo-e, and Chinese Gongbi painting. My designs follow the body’s natural flow and structure, aiming to reflect each client’s unique identity. I particularly enjoy working on larger-scale projects that allow for deeper storytelling and a more harmonious integration with the body.
Today, I work from my private studio, Mid City Tattoo, located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.
